DOUG HALL’S STORY (1919-2010)

The Doug Hall Foundation (DHF) is a non-profit organisation which is financially supported by D A Hall & Co. From humble beginnings, D A Hall & Co has become a large and successful integrated rural enterprise. One of the business’s key values is generosity and with a focus on community and education, D A Hall & Co established DHF in 2011 to conduct its philanthropic activities.

The founder of the business, Doug Hall (1919-2010), was born in Fiji and with his mother (Hally) came to live in Australia when he was 2 years of age. Hally found work as a housekeeper in rural Australia and during Doug’s early years they moved numerous times until they eventually settled in the Millmerran district in the late 1930’s.

Doug began his poultry business in 1960 with 200 hens. Over the next 50 years the business grew and diversified. Doug’s ambition, business acumen and drive were integral in creating this enterprise. His son, Simon, joined his father in 1977 and continues to run the business.

Although successful in business, Doug’s character never changed and he continued his zest for life and his interest in people, community and family. He was a generous man who helped many. The foundation was named after Doug to honour Doug’s belief in education and community.

A leg up to a bright future

We believe all young people have the right to be well-educated. Our foundation seeks to support students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to fulfill their potential.
